Heavy rain left the Monocacy about six feet above normal and the Potomac ten feet out of bank at Point of Rocks. Rain totals reached 1.5 inches at Frederick with warming weather causing asphalt damage on roads and mud affecting county and state routes.
Fredendary and related articulation areas will close for pupil days in March as teachers attend in service training. Alfred Thackston Jr. lists dates and sites March 5 12 19 22 and 26 with meetings at multiple high schools elementary schools and other campuses. Federal relief officials poured into the Mississippi Delta after dozens of tornadoes killed 82, injured hundreds, and left 2,350 homeless. A major disaster designation opened grants for repairs, mobile homes, and low cost loans as Gov Williams planned talks with Gen Lincoln to coordinate relief. About 100 tornadoes hit seven counties, causing roughly 7.5 million dollars in damage and evacuations continued amid shortages and curfews in Inverness and Moorhead.
The Frederick County Commissioners did not act on a $6,000 cash transfer request to start Phase II of Frederick Citys Downtown Study. Phase I, led by Marcou OLeary Associates, nears completion but funding changes delay Phase II by at least six months. The study totals $89,350 with county in kind services valued at $26,450 and a consultant fee of $52,900 funded by federal sources.
U S command reports its heaviest air raids in three months against SAM sites and anti aircraft positions in North Vietnam. About 50 fighter bombers plus 20 support aircraft attacked near the Laotian border with no U S losses. A general in South Vietnam was killed in a helicopter crash as fighting continued in Laos with no progress reported.

Washington AP The Nixon administration tells Congress it would accept an extension of the standby authority to impose temporary wage price controls. Connally indicates no general controls are needed but keeps open the possibility of a targeted wage price freeze in construction. The authority expires March 31 unless extended amid Democratic criticism of Nixon’s restraint.
