Budget debate: Frederick County schools seek $160,000 boost
The Frederick County Board of Education urged the county commissioners to provide a $160,000 increase to hire extra teachers to reduce class sizes. The plan would add 5.5 middle school remedial math positions and 4.5 to kindergarten as enrollment rises. The board prefers using noncounty funds for several items, including computer equipment and library resources, and seeks self funding for food services to help finance library upgrades. Minor salary adjustments were noted while contract talks with teachers continue, with the possibility of further county funding.
