Exotic foods and a food scout find demand abroad
Mrs Evelyn Haines, a Pennsylvania Dutch housewife, travels markets for rare foreign foods sought by American buyers. She has sold Mexican fried worms and rattlesnake meat, with other items like roasted grasshoppers and bats from Guam. Her career began when Max Hess launched exotic dishes for his Allentown store. She notes servicemen and adventurous husbands drive demand, while her own husband remains wary. She hopes chocolate covered ants will join her menu, while her 80 year old mother samples new foods at home.
