Local school board actions and library grants reported
The board limited bills, set the fall Teachers Institute for September, and approved library appropriations for Jefferson Point of Books Lander Emmitsburg and Mid Betown. New guard duties were issued for Frederick Female School, with April 15 closings and audited teacher accounts. Contracts with several teachers were confirmed while a leak at the Female High School prompted guard replacements. An unrelated medical and culinary discussion followed about egg preservation and Sussex remedies, then a medical anecdote on Bucklen’s Arnica and a humorous notice in the News about a runaway incident and a floor-walker troop inquiry.
