Bill would stiffen penalties for motorists in Maryland
Delegate Louise Snodgrass seeks higher license point penalties for drivers who fail to yield to disabled pedestrians using canes, guide dogs, hearing aids, or wheelchairs. First offense would rise from one to two points, second from two to four, and five points if an accident occurs. Supporters say the measure protects disabled citizens at intersections and sidewalks.

Youth found unconscious in Emmitsburg yard
A 16 year old Catoctin High School student, John Anthony Eliott of Emmitsburg, was found unconscious in a yard on Mountain View Road and airlifted to Washington County Trauma Center. He was in a coma on arrival but reportedly in good condition the next day, with hospital officials declining to confirm ongoing coma status. The incident, described as alcohol related, involved other Catoctin students according to a sheriff’s office corporal. Ambulance crews saw no obvious injuries and could not determine how the teen lay in the yard.
