Frederick Memorial Seen Unaffected by Hospital Plan
Maryland's Hospital Capacity Plan requires 54 acute care hospitals to cut excess beds. Noncompliant facilities risk forced bed reductions or loss of licenses. compliant hospitals via merger or repurposing may gain faster access to future certificates of need. Frederick Memorial, with near full occupancy, may see two beds not become an issue. Construction of the hospital’s new wing continues, aiming to open in June with 145 beds by August and more by January 1967. The plan targets eliminating 2,000 beds this year and 5,000 over three years, with adjustments possible for extraordinary circumstances.
