C&O Canal Called Engineering Feat at Hood College Talk
John C. Frye, an interpretive ranger, described the C&O Canal as an engineering masterpiece during a Hood College lecture as part of the Master Docent Series. He traced the canal’s history from Washington’s era through the 1870s, noting clashes with the B&O Railroad, a 49,118 foot tunnel, seven dams, 74 locks, and 11 aqueducts, and the 1971 designation as a historic park drawing millions annually.
