Snowy day disaster for Frederick County Red Cross
A severe winter day on February 11, 1983, forced Frederick County Red Cross to open multiple shelters for stranded residents and city workers. Darlene St Aulis, Paul Mossburg, and J Preston Wilson organized cots, blankets, food, and lodging at several fire halls and shelters with help from Mount St. Mary's, St Joseph's, FEMA, and private homes. Over 618 people sheltered across three sites, fed meals, and stayed through the night as roads remained impassable.
