Harry B. Kanode longtime Frederick County dairy farmer and former Capitol Milk Producers Association president died Tuesday morning at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born February 18, 1886 in Frederick County, he lived in Adamstown and owned Rosedale Farm before retiring in 1965. He served as Frederick County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee chair for many years.
The Maryland State Board of Education voted unanimously to oppose state funds for parochial school aid in principle. It plans a detailed statement at the Feb 24 meeting in Baltimore while Gov Mandel has set aside 14 million for such aid in the 1971 77 budget. The Kraushaar Commission recommended up to 14 million for a scholarship program.
U S Senator J Glenn Beall Jr and Congressman Goodloe Byron urge funding to keep Fort Detrick research center operating beyond June 30. They explain standby plans and ongoing STRATCOM and Walter Reed divisions, with support from Mathias staff and local leaders. A 28 member Frederick County Chamber of Commerce delegation led by G Bernard Callan Jr met in Washington to learn national chamber operations and plan the new local year.
