Deaf support bill to create state department for deaf
Dozens of Maryland lawmakers and members of the deaf community backed a proposal to establish an Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing within state government. The bill, drafted by Sen Timman Ferguson, would require a deaf director and two annual public town halls, with costs estimated at 163,268 in 2002 and 207,002 in 2006, while Gov. Glendening opposes the measure.
