Historic panel to relocate Oaks site for preservation
Montgomery County planners urged the Historic Sites Commission to relocate The Oaks and five farm buildings and a water tower when preparing a site for a planned 1982 landfill at Md 108 and Riggs Road. The Oaks, an 18th century Tidewater house built circa 1800 to 1814, sits on prime soil farm land once operated by Letts and later became part of the Safeway dairy chain. A public hearing is set for February 21 in Rockville.
