Solons Kill Slot Machine Reprieve Bill
ANNAPOLIS AP The Senate Finance Committee rejected a bill to extend the life of Southern Maryland slot machines by two years. The panel favored an unfavorable report by voice vote and 7 5 rejected Sen Hall’s motion for favorable action. If the floor overrides fail the measure is effectively dead for practical purposes. The phase out starts July 1 with counts declining to 30, then 20, and 10 by July 1 of the following year. The abolition was urged after 1963 legislature action and Gov Tawes backed the adjustment plan. The committee split with Hall joined by Dorf Mach Raley Sanford and opposed by Pine Dean Gude Hepburn Nock North Wineland.
