The craft, 809 pounds, will perform complex maneuvers and land near the Sea of Tranquility about 5 a m Saturday after a 234 300 mile trip. The mission seeks better detail than Ranger 7, whose 4 312 pictures showed tiny craters and surface rubble, guiding experts through debates on lunar dust depth and terrain.
