Transients on the Rise in Frederick This Year
City police estimates show a more than 20 percent rise in transients passing through Frederick since January 1, 1937, compared with the same period last year. Salvation Army and Montevue Hospital report large numbers seeking shelter. headquarters notes many sign for admittance while some names and addresses are doubted. Most transients head south in winter, with routes from Pennsylvania New York Carolinas and even California. Some appear educated, though few resemble steady workers.

Flareback To Winter Indicated By Forecast
The weather bureau predicted a flareback to winter with a general snowstorm likely today and Thursday. Snow was already reported in Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania as a strong high pressure influenced Canada from 20 to 44 degrees below zero on the north shore of Lake Superior. A band of low pressure spanned about two thirds of the United States, with an earlier note of possible early spring from state meteorologist John R. Weeks.
