Woodsboro Lutheran installs Rev Berbert H Schmidt March 6

Rev Berbert H Schmidt will be installed as pastor of the Woodsboro Lutheran charge on Sunday March 6 with services at Haugh's church near Ladiesburg at 7:30 pm and a formal installation at Woodsboro Lutheran church at 2:30 pm. The event follows arrangements by the joint council and involves Rocky Hill and Chapel on the Back Road congregations.

Glad Circle Society Meets At Home of Bare

The Glad Circle Society held its monthly meeting Friday evening at 38 oclock at 300 West South Street, with Mrs T W Clem presiding. Members sang hymns, recited prayers, and welcomed visitors. A playlet The Minister's Mistake was presented by several members, followed by a duet and piano piece. Prizes were awarded to attendees.

Safety markers distributed by State American Legion

About 30000 safety book markers sponsored by the State American Legion were distributed outside Baltimore. The marker originated by Department Safety Chairman Doll Derr, and the effort is described as having begun to spread safety awareness.

Supreme Court Upholds State Truck Weight Law

Washington February 14 The Supreme Court upheld provisions of a South Carolina law limiting trucks to a maximum gross weight of 192000 pounds and width to ninety inches for interstate commerce on state highways Justice Harlan F Stone delivered the decision. The court reversed a district court ruling, finding the regulations within state power and not infringing the Fourteenth Amendment. The Justice Department argued the rules imposed an unreasonable burden on interstate commerce.

Leads in cooperatives in Minnesota

Minnesota reports 1,900 cooperative organizations the state’s largest total. Creameries lead with 642, followed by 359 shipping associations, 315 elevators, 194 oil associations, 121 stores, 163 credit unions, 72 potato and produce shipping associations, and 34 cheese factories per University of Minnesota Agricultural college survey.

California moves to curb tide pool acid squirt practice

California officials seek to end the practice of squirting acid into tide pools to force devilfish from hiding spots, aiming to protect marine life and preserve coastal habitats.

Damage Suits Entered After Accident Settled

Damage suits by Delegate Charles S. Houck Jr of Walkersville and his wife against DeLasa ms Bros Acungios, Va contractors and the city of Frederick were settled out of court for a total of 14 000 dollars after a West Patrick Street accident caused by a pole. Houck claimed the wreck was not due to the sewer project. Attorneys noted the settlement and costs. In a separate matter Associate Judge Arthur D. Harden ruled for Mr and Mrs Adams of the Worm, awarding 373 dollars in damages from Guy F Staub Hansonville in an attachment action. The court ordered condemnation of attached property toward the claim and costs. The Adams alleged Staub failed to cultivate a farm and let a wheat crop fail, while stock damaged corn. The case involved the farm owned by Mrs Sarah Staub and tied to a shooting incident at the same property.

Union Bridge Homemakers Meet At Mrs Rep Home

The Union Bridge Homemakers met at the home of Mrs John Rep with fourteen members and two visitors present. Mrs Joan Roop presided as president and led the response by naming the favor bearer. The evening featured popular paintings, a reading, and a demonstration on wall decorations. Refreshments were served. March meeting planned at Mrs L Stauffer's home.
