Fire gutted a bedroom at 1330 Mulberry Court in Frederick as firefighters arrived about 8 27 p m to find the ground floor room in flames. The blaze caused heat and smoke damage to the upper level though residents escaped with doors closed. A Maryland State Fire Marshal investigates the cause. Fire units from Independent Junior Citizens United Fort Detrick and Braddock Heights responded.
Sykesville Maryland State Police report a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Robert Keszler 16 lost control on Bartholow Road at 1 30 p m. The car fishtailed struck a mailbox pole rolled over ejecting Casey L Carpenter 14 Lindsey Gill 16 and Timothy Valentine 16 Cassy Carpenter died at the scene Gill and Valentine were hospitalized then released Keszler survived
Investigators searched the Maryland House of Corrections over months, finding a small number of correctional officers involved in smuggling drugs. 19 inmates, mostly lifers for murder, were moved to SuperMax Baltimore and face additional charges. No officers were charged. 275 officers and 75 state troopers aided in the two searches, with a second sweep at 2 p.m. Officials warned ongoing inquiries and street-level drug activity may persist.
After complaints at the Lowe House Office Building, the nude study The Evolution of Lies by Melissa Shatto was taken down and replaced with a cow image. County officials defended the move as a matter of decorum in a public corridor.
A 20 year old Baltimore man Shaun David Robinson was arrested on marijuana possession after a state trooper stopped a speeding vehicle on I 70 east of South Street. During a search at about 11 p.m. Trooper Patrick Morris found marijuana in Robinsons boot. Driver Jasob Christopher Lease also 20 of Baltimore was not charged. Robinson was released on personal recognizance.
Frederick police charged Andrew Edward Arnold Jr. 25 after finding him choking a woman at 155 Stonegate Drive at 1:59 a.m. He allegedly assaulted an officer, injuring an eye, who was treated and released. Arnold faces three counts of second-degree assault along with resisting arrest and destruction of property. he was released on his own recognizance.

A fire damaged a duplex at 116 and 118 Ice St on Friday afternoon and was blamed on attic wiring per the State Fire Marshal. Total loss about 75000 red cross assisting displaced resident Helen Carroll and her son. fire crews from multiple units fought for 22 minutes after a 1 15 p m 911 call.

A 19-year-old woman, Jennifer Eyler, fell asleep at the wheel of a 1987 Chevrolet Nova on southbound U.S. 15 near Auburn Road in Thurmont. The car crossed into the median and oncoming lanes, overcompensated, left the road and struck a dirt embankment. She was flown to Baltimore's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in fair and stable condition.
