Bridges at street level chosen for Creek project
City planners say higher bridges would block water flow and require piers, so channels will be widened and the route deepened or undergrounded at the western end to protect Barbra Fritchie House and other sites. The Highland Street span may be rebuilt, East Street extended toward I-70, and Water and Wisner Street bridges possibly removed. The plan spans years and costs will exceed 9 million due to inflation and environmental studies. The mayor seeks outside grants to fund staged progress.
