Frederick baby receives donor liver transplant in Pittsburgh
Samantha Bittner, a one month old Frederick resident, received a donor liver last weekend at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Her mother said liver function is improving but she remains in intensive care with ongoing concerns and a five to ten day ICU stay followed by weeks to months of hospitalization. The family, who previously faced biliary artesia diagnosed at Georgetown, moved through Kasai procedures without success, and now highlight the critical need for organ donations. A Samantha Bittner Transplant Fund has been set up in Hagerstown to support the family.
