Hospital Capacity Strains Frederick Memorial Amid Flu Surge

Frederick Memorial Hospital reached full capacity early today as respiratory illnesses drive higher patient volumes. Spokesman Scott Grove said the surge is unusual for January and February and tied to broader influenza activity across the country. A bed reduction plan proposes trimming 12 beds, with state guidelines pending. In Red Alert, emergency patients would be stabilized and may be transferred to nearby facilities, though local patients would still be served here. Inpatient volumes are expected to ease as the year-over-year trend shows empty beds previously.
