Chicago Eggs In Cold Storage As Prices Climb
Chicago estimates 45 million eggs stored in cold storage despite a local famine in the product. Housekeepers pay 38 cents a dozen as big meat packers and dealers are said to hold a corner. Last spring packers bought hundreds of thousands of cases to stock for future demand when fresh eggs would be scarce. Eggs were purchased at 15 to 17 and a half cents a dozen.
