Two men accused of armed holdup near Emmitsburg
State police arrested Russell J Newcomer 32 of Ken Frederick and Frederck EO Weishaar 233 of Taneytown after a midnight armed robbery attempt at a public telephone booth near Emmitsburg. They allegedly threatened Byron Jones 39 of Thurmont and took $19 from his wallet. A 44 caliber pistol and a 22 caliber rifle were reported. Police say the robbers fled as Jones called for help. Also: a break-in at Singarore High School cafeteria damaged property and police investigated. Frederick City police jailed Russell Wolf Fisher for drunk driving and running a red light on US 4. trial scheduled March 6.

A 4 year old Frederick man, Sylvester J Morris Sr, was charged with murder after confessing to the shooting of his wife Betty Ruth Morris at about 3 PM on East Street. The weapon had not been recovered. Mrs Morris died at the scene. A prior assault charge against Morris remains on file.
