Roadside Control Law Fees Fight Bill In Legislature

Opponents warn a proposed roadside control bill would give the Maryland Roads Commission sweeping authority over land along state roads. A memo circulated by delegate Kathisa Lachary argues the measure would strip private landowners of compensation, effectively creating a state “voting czar” over routes and roadside advertising. Critics say it threatens property rights and local control, labeling the bill a potential “steel of 1957” and a threat to constitutional protections.
