House Defeats Federal Ballot Plan For Battle Vote
Bewse House passes the Worley Bill to urge states to allow absent service members to cast absentee ballots. The vote split shows Republicans and Southern Democrats backing the States rights approach, with opposition from some Republicans and Southern Democrats for a federal ballot plan. The measure recommends state action, use of absentee postcards, and deadlines for ballot applications for armed forces at home and abroad.
