Home Burns as Family Attends Grange Meeting
Fire destroyed the two story home of Mr and Mrs Raymond Putman near Creagerstown while the family attended a Creagerstown Grange meeting. Loss estimated around 5000 with some insurance. Firefighters from Guardian Hose Thurmont and New Midway fought the blaze, saving nearby outbuildings as water and chemicals were exhausted. No one was home when fire was discovered at about 9 30 PM. The origin remains undetermined though chimney problems were noted from a previous fire blackout. Neighbors helped save furniture and foodstuffs as rebuilding plans begin.
