Washington informs that President Johnson may respond to Hanoi hints of peace talks. The 3 p.m. news conference will be televised and radio carried. U S officials weigh whether direct talks could end bombing and require de escalation of North Vietnamese military actions.
U S Marines report killing 68 Communist troops in early phases of two new drives in the northern part of South Vietnam. Elsewhere Ameri can, Korean and South Vietnamese units claim nearly 150 enemy dead in clashes across the country. Last week 131 Americans were killed and 822 wounded, up from 123 killed and 716 wounded the prior week. South Vietnamese headquarters say 157 government troops died last week, a sharp drop from 340 the week before. Total enemy deaths reached 979, down from 1,681 the prior week.

Frederick police report three businesses entered during the night Bob's Service Station at Scholl's Lane and South Jefferson Street had a west side window broken and about $10 in change stolen from the cash register. The West South Street and Thomas Avenue service station was entered with an east side window broken and the office ransacked but nothing taken. Sanitary Laundry on East Patrick Street was entered through a rear window with about 30 cents taken from an office drawer. Detective squad investigating the entries.
The Frederick County grand jury will be impanelled Monday to consider indictments in about 30 criminal cases. The 23-member panel will inspect the county jail and Montevue home, and finish in about four days. Members were drawn from 48 residents. the remaining 25 join the petit jury pool.
Kenneth E. Harding of Frederick was found not guilty on three charges in Frederick County Circuit Court relating to the 1965 beating and robbery of William F. Grove. He had earlier been convicted and later granted a new trial due to a court ruling on jury oaths.
The stock market resumed an uptrend in active New York trading as investors bought shares early today guided by ongoing optimism about financial conditions and corporate results.
Gov. Agnew backs a tax reform plan that would shift tax burdens and boost Frederick County aid by about 679600. The proposal would raise overall taxes by about 1285000 and increase state aid to Frederick, Carroll, and Montgomery counties, with Montgomery receiving 14522500 in new aid on 30442100 taxes. The plan, from a special tax reform committee, targets education and public safety funding.
The Maryland General Assembly's first Frederick County bill passed the House and moves the budget finalization date from May 1 to June 1. Commissioners requested the change to gain an extra month for budget study. The measure now goes to the Senate.

Frederick County officials weigh a new request for Catoctin High School funding totaling 2,744 dollars from county funds with a $225,000 state loan.
