Mute Receives Nine Month Sentence For Assault
A seven year old mute identified as Robert West was sentenced to nine months in the Maryland House of Correction after a magistrate’s court conviction for assault with a butcher knife at a tavern on West All Saints Street. James A. Jefferson suffered a four inch wrist cut. Jefferson testified through an interpreter that West attacked him when he could not understand. West previously had a similar conviction in August 1960 and another for assault and battery on a Negro woman in December. A mental test recommendation was noted.
