Williamsport and Sharpsburg Boatmen Reject New Freight Proposal
At a Williamsport meeting on Saturday canal boatmen rejected General Manager G L Nicholson’s plan to pay tonnage for coal hauling, forty cents to Georgetown and twenty two cents to Williamsport. Sharpburg boatmen protest the uneven eighteen cent gap, citing unfair distance, about 100 miles. Most prefer current independent boating. fear transportation company control would erode their autonomy. Frederick County Man Won Suit Over Horse Deal
Lewis Devilbiss of Frederick County won a suit against Thomas Grimes at Boyds before Justice Norris on a horse deal. Devilbiss sold a horse valued at about $100 to Grimes with a three day trial. Grimes says he tried to return it but the horse went lame and he delayed. The justice ruled the sale valid and granted judgment for the sale amount and costs. Also, cattle at Point of Rocks were loaded on cars. during unloading, twenty or more cattle escaped and were killed by a westbound express, straying until the next day. An advertisement for Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy cites a testimonial from Mrs. J. A. Moone of Northville, Mich. and notes it is sold by 4. G. Peirce.
