Maryland Governor seeks record 215 million budget
Annapolis Jan 31 Gov Meckeldin finishes the message asking the Maryland Legislature to approve a record budget near 216 million from state revenues plus an expected 23 million from federal sources for roads health welfare and education. The plan would total about 239 million with general funds around 110 million and about 105 million in special funds. Opening Wednesday the 30 day session will focus on the budget and welfare proposals amid intra party maneuvering. The Senate aims to reelect Sen Della to a fourth term as president while House leaders seek their corners on speakership with Luber and Boone and Eastern Shore support. After the message vetoes totaling 42 from 1958 acts will be addressed before the budget. Dr Everstine notes many bill requests are coming in though few new proposals are planned.
