Frederick County Citizens Band Radio Club offers New Year’s transport

The Frederick County Citizens Band Radio Club Inc will provide free confidential rides for those unable to drive on New Year’s Eve December 31 and January 1. From about 10 p m on each night volunteers will standby to ensure safe travel for intoxicated individuals. call 662-2961 for rides.

Quake Hammers Western Greece Leveling Villages

An earthquake struck western Greece causing heavy damage to towns south of Lake Trikhonis and Messolonghi. Ano Makrinou and Kato Makrinou were leveled, about 1500 residents affected, hundreds of homes damaged, and thousands left homeless as power lines failed and communications were cut. Police report no deaths or serious injuries at once but search and rescue ongoing.
