Progress On Integration Progress On Integration
The Tuskegee Institute reports definite progress toward racial integration in 1955, with islands of tension but no widespread upheaval. Court decisions and federal policy foster a climate of permissiveness for desegregation, while resistance and drift remain in some Southern areas. The report notes many communities desegregating peacefully and calls for continued democratic discussion and action.
