Texas to tax career students with higher tuition
Texas Comptroller John Sharp proposes raising tuition for students with at least 170 hours of credit to as much as four times the current rate. If lawmakers approve, the plan could save about 4.5 million annually starting 1999, with a rise from 2150 to 7910 dollars per year for affected undergrads at public universities. Everett Lee of the University of Texas warns the plan would hurt double majors and late-degree seekers. Exceptions may apply. graduates returning for another degree and AP or test credits would not count toward the 170-hour threshold.

High wire tribute in New York cathedral by Philippe Petit
Philippe Petit performs a costumed high wire tribute named Crescendo inside the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York. The act honors the retiring Rev James Parks Morton with a dance mime and lighting piece that blends faith, risk, and art without a safety net. The performance uses a 20 foot high wire, a 27 foot pole, and buffalo skin slippers, portraying Morton's life and Petit's own journey from street performer to artist in residence.
