Safety Responsibility Law To Be Proposed

Baltimore December 29 A safety responsibility law to protect the public from reckless motorists and financial loss in accidents will be submitted to the 1945 General Assembly. Operators would post security or show liability insurance equal to damage value, held until court action or settlement. Both parties must report accidents yielding bodily injury death or property damage over 50 dollars, with licenses suspended if security is not deposited within 60 days. Security would be held by the state treasurer to pay judgments. A Maryland motor vehicle official said the measure acts like compulsory liability insurance without its drawbacks. If enacted it would take effect June 1, 1945, and similar laws exist in several states.
