Washington reports the tire shortage ends talk of relaxing the wartime 35 mile speed limit. The Associated Press reports Pvt. Dorsey Scheetz of Point of Rocks and Pfe. Malcolm B. Shadle of Taneytown were among Marylanders wounded in the European theater. The War Department said next of kin have been notified and Scheetz is recovering from a non serious wound.
London reports Prime Minister Churchill and Foreign Secretary Eden arrived in Britain today after conferences in Greece. Officials did not disclose details but the return marks the end of talks with Allied leaders.

They advanced from the south through Zappion Park toward Ardittes Hill, which had changed hands in a mortar duel last week.
Allied headquarters reported a four day German counter offensive in the Serchio valley aimed at Lucca and Berga was slowed. American Fifth Army had driven back German forces from areas around Barga Gallicano and the Serchio river region as the push weakened.
