Dover Delaware December 30 After serving as trustee of a penknife for eighteen years John Morgan overseer of Dr Down s farm near Cheswold fulfilled his trust and turned the heir Victor Durand a penknife left to him by his father when he died The knife holds family significance and Morgan was instructed to act as trustee until Durand s infant son reaches eighteen.
Abraham Ruef once San Francisco political boss was sentenced to fourteen years in the state penitentiary at San Quentin by Judge Mam P. Lawlor. He was convicted of bribing a member of the city board in the awarding of an overhead trolley franchise to United Railroads after a lengthy trial that ended on December 10. An appeal and writ of probable cause were filed on Ruef's behalf before adjournment.
Waterbury Conn Dec 30 Major Teddy Roosevelt son of Gov elect George L Alley has left political circles to learn carpet weaving in Thompsontownville to save up for a uniform. His father opposes the step and has not supported his son, who chose the trade independently.
Philadelphia report states Robert Hecker aged six was killed days before Christmas by a car driven by Miss Dorothy Ritter. His father F J Becker, grief stricken, shot himself at home after learning A Howard Ritter paid over $1000. Becker left a widow and nine children.
