Record fish, hunting, and state wildlife notes from 2000
The year 2000 brought Maryland outdoor milestones including three state record fish: a 9 ounce cutthroat trout by David Martin in North Branch, a 12 pound 14 ounce brown trout by Ray Fer steman in Deep Creek Lake, and a 47 pound 2 ounce striped bass in Liberty Reservoir by Bob Bruce. Shad passages were completed boosting 425 miles of river access, a strong bass year led by Woo Daves with the Bassmaster Classic win, and turkey and deer hunts set records. Sad notes include deaths of David Snook and Ray Crouse II. Controversies included CARA's fate, Daniel Beck's illegal striped bass acts, and Gov Glendening’s rejection of a limited bear season.
