Federal grant funds totaling nearly 15 million dollars fund an obstruction clearance project south of the airport. The initiative aims to clear homes businesses trees and even silos to create a safer approach path and improve utility access in the surrounding area.
Frederick police pursue a possible connection between Spencer and the Hoffmaster killing four years after Stacy Lynn H ter, a 15 year old found bound and strangled in Frederick. Charging documents show Spencer was not jailed when Stacy vanished and he was later arrested Oct 8 for a separate assault. Lt. Chase and State's Attorney Scott Rolle offered limited details.
The Census Bureau released the first 2000 census figures showing broader gains for southern and western states. Arizona and Texas were projected to gain two seats each as the 435 House seats must be reapportioned. President Clinton and Commerce Secretary Mineta welcomed the results and thanked Americans for participating.
