The Francis Scott Key Hotel in Frederick announces its formal opening on Monday January 8 with a stockholders dinner from 630 to 930 PM and a dance to midnight. Col D John Markey chairs the building committee and Emory L Coblentz will preside. Invitations go to stockholders and their families with limited accommodations and special souvenirs for guests.
Formal opening of the new hotel on January 8 includes a stockholders dinner from 6 30 to 8 30 with families and out of town guests. Emory L Coblentz, president, will preside at the closing exercises. A dance follows in the banquet ballroom from 9 to midnight. The next day a public opening and Maryland Agricultural Society convention will begin with guests arriving. Souvenirs will be presented to pen and women guests attending stockholders night.
Reno S Harp and William M Storm sue Western Maryland Dairy Company for 35000 damages alleging yearly nuisances from offal runoff into a creek by the Zacharias farm near Motter’s Station. Plaintiffs claim sickness in stock and loss of meadow land due to foul odors. the dairy has since remedied the situation.

William J. Lemp, 54, president of the William J. Lemp Brewery Co., died by self-inflicted shot. This marks the third family suicide among the famous brewers, with his father and sister having earlier taken their own lives. The Lemp brewery, one of the world’s largest before Prohibition, occupied a 14 acre triangle in south St. Louis and was valued at about $7,000,000.
Will H. Hays director general of the motion picture industry told the Women's City Club that Roscoe Arbuckle probably would not appear soon in any motion pictures but would be given an opportunity to direct film productions in the near future.
Miss Edith M. Thomas, longtime home economics leader in North Carolina, has been promoted to field agent for the South and Eastern states. She will work from Washington starting January 2, examining and aiding state superintendents under the Federal Board’s vocational training program.
Sterling Galt longtime Emmitsburg resident and former publisher of the Emmitsburg Weekly Chronicle died at his home after a brief illness of lobar pneumonia. He was a member of the Maryland State Board of Education and held posts on the State Library Commission and the Board of Visitors of the Maryland School for the Deaf. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery after services at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. He left a wife, two children, and a Washington sister behind.
Frederick received nearly an inch of rain on Thursday easing drought conditions. Forecasters predict continued cold weather with a possible temperature rise by Saturday. Street life showed signs of hardship as residents bundled up, while rainfall contributes to improved moisture levels after recent storms.
