Weather shifts to arctic snap as winter arrives in Frederick
A rapid temperature drop after recent snow left Frederick with zero to 30 degrees above zero and slick, icy streets. Nine inches of snow from Monday night and Tuesday morning melted or turned to slush as rain fell, while trees and wires bore a thick coating of ice. The changing weather signals a hard start to winter, with frigid highs and notable coldest-of-year readings reported across the county.
