Mandel backs pre school program in Maryland budget
Governor Mandel favors a Maryland Department of Social Services plan for 3 and 4 year olds, backed by 3.6 million in federal funds and 1.2 million state money, adding 500 day care slots in 10 centers and 900 more in private nonprofit centers, with 600 in family plans, over a 4.8 million package. The plan beats a Department of Education model that would cost 800000 more and include middle income children.
