Jury Frees Berger Of Arson Charge
The Circuit Court jury found Richard Edward Berger not guilty after eleven hours of testimony. Berger, 37, of Mt. Pleasant faced charges of setting a fire at his second floor apartment at 101 W Fourth Street on June 26. Berger testified he was at Gem Laundry on West Patrick Street at the time. A partner, Harry Lawson, testified Berger joked about fires at their laundry amid financial trouble. The jury deliberated past midnight after the state rested its case. Berger is represented by Ed win F Nikirk and Richard Zimmer man.
