Twelve year old Annie Kirby of TiHtowa Corner Chester county broke her neck in a fall down a cellar stairs while going to fetch provisions for a Christmas dinner. She died shortly after the accident.
In Georgia, Governor Hoke Smith reportedly received a diamond-studded watch as a Christmas gift from convicts at the state prison. The note says the gift was funded by prisoners who earned extra time after duties, praising reforms in the convict system. The item was presented at the City Opera House.
Chicago dispatch reports that the federal grand jury will expand its probe of the packers beyond rebates and wage billing to seek violations of the anti trust laws. In Pottsville Pennsylvania on December 26 Willie, aged eight, lost control of his sled on Lawton's hill and plunged over a fifty foot wall onto train tracks. He clung to his sled, was stunned, and lay on the rails as a passenger train approached. Joseph Flannery rescued him just as the train neared, pulling him to safety. Morrie will recover.
