The Late Donald G Mitchell Marvel Author Dies in Connecticut

Donald G Mitchell known worldwide as Marvel and author of Reveries of a Bachelor and Crown Life died recently at his Connecticut home. Born in Norwich, Connecticut in April 1822, he was raised by a clergyman father who oversaw his education and shaped the gentle sentiments found in his beloved writings. Mitchell, once frail, sought health abroad before achieving lasting literary attention with Reveries of a Bachelor in 1860.

York Inventor Acquitted in Patent Office Fraud Case

John A. Heany of York Pennsylvania was acquitted while Henry E. Everding of Philadelphia was convicted by jury on charges of conspiracy perjury and destroying public records linked to a patent office scandal. The case involved fraudulent handling of patent applications data tied to an electric light invention.

Three men indicted in patent office irregularities case

Heany and Evording along with Ned W. Barton former assistant examiner in the patent office were arrested last February after a probe into irregularities. Papers and drawings filed by Heady and patent firm were allegedly mishandled and a fraud charge followed. In Altoona Pa fire broke out after a Keith theatre show causing panic exits and injuries with minor property loss.

JAIL TERMS FOR LABOR LEADERS REPORTED

A federal court in Washington sentences Gompers to nine months, Mitchell to a year, Morrison to six months for contempt of court related to an injunction against Labor Coalitions. All released on bonds pending appeal as labor leaders protest the decision as a blow to free speech. The case stemmed from actions against the Unfair Bac Stove and Range boycott activity.

Financier Resigns From Directorate of Thirty-One Corporations

New York December 24 Thomas Ray Ryan, a power in finance and long prominent in the management of large enterprises, resigned from the directorate of thirty-one nations due to health advised retirement. His remaining interests include Morton Trust Company National Bank of Ferce and American Tobacco Company. The move follows a two year retirement policy in his later years.
