Forecasts show a white Christmas likely for the city with tonight expected to bring more snow tomorrow. Last minute shoppers flood stores as business suspends Tuesday and dealers in trees report full sellout.
The Associated Press notes a white Christmas unlikely for eastern sections while western and mountainous areas may enjoy snow or sleet. Cloudy skies and a falling thermometer were forecast, with snow or rain expected to arrive on Christmas Day possibly before dawn.
The forecast promises possible snow in extreme western areas with a cold wave moving from Canada toward Frederick. City officials praise public generosity as 300 to 400 Christmas baskets will reach needy families, while shoppers flood stores with last minute buys and ornaments sell out. The post office will close at midnight as workers finish holiday duties.
Fifty members from Lynch and Columbia Lodges A F and A Masons attended Christmas themed service at St Luke's Lutheran Church in Fenger ville. Rev George H Seiler of Lynch Lodge led prayers and reflected on Masonic ideals with a Christmas choir and solo performances. Jacob Rohrbach served as marshal. Claude F Culler and Millard F Lease Jr held lodge positions.
Vatican City December 24 AP Pope Pius XII urged world leaders to pray and work for peace as he warned that the clamor of war spreads further. He noted a rise in warlike arms and called for prayers for peace, while offering a stark alternative if war maniacs prevail. He concluded with repeated pleas for peace.
Baltimore reports Governor Albert C. Ritchie will resume private legal practice on January 9 after 15 years as Maryland’s governor. He will rejoin partners Stuart S. Janney Frank B. Ober and Robert W. Williams, who remained with the firm since his leaving in 1920.

Deputy sheriffs announced they found no evidence of any airplane crash after a careful search of the Piru mountain region. The reports emerged December 24 and were investigated by authorities in Piru, California.
Postmaster Irving 8. Biser says any mail arriving by noon today will be delivered in the city. All banks will close. Stores and downtown streets will be empty tomorrow except for church services or other special activities as Frederick observes Christmas at home.
Frederick County commissioners weighed preliminaries for the 1935 budget with a possible rise from 90 cents. Marriage licenses issued in Hagerstown include Eugene M Dermott 21 of Middletown and Catherine M Leapole 18 of Boonsboro and George H Turner 26 of Middletown and Leeda M Hahn 17 of Boonsboro. Miss Ruth Dennan returned home on Lindburgh Avenue after three weeks in New York.
Baltimore December 24 AP The Nice administration contemplates raising about 10 million in additional revenue with an income tax and other levies, alongside a sales tax. Governor-elect Nice has urged his taxation committee led by William J. Casey to draft quickly transformable bills.
Elko Nevada December 24 AP rescue teams searched for Floyd Delong the pilot and three children two girls and a boy missing after their plane disappeared in snow and fog over the mountains north of Elko. The youths were Donald Strawn 13 June 16 Ruth Womack 13 enroute to Mountain City to spend Christmas with their families.
Report from Mazatlan notes the seven people aboard a commercial plane vanished after it fell into the Gulf of California on a flight to La Paz. Among the missing were American Sky pilot N Abbott and plane owner Noel Bullock. No trace found after search.
Police are on the look-out for persons charged with stealing colored vent bulbs used for Christmas decorations on front porches.
Peoples Liquidating Corp announces a 2 percent distribution to certificate holders of the closed Central Trust Company of Maryland. About 200000 dollars will be distributed to bank depositors in addition to the 6 percent already paid, bringing total paid to 8 percent as per court valuation.

Federal investigators sought the person who mailed a pamphlet titled No 2310 Criminal File Exposed Aviator's Baby Who s Never Kidnapped or Murdered to 150 prospective jurors for the Hauptmann murder trial. Prosecutor Hauck called the act malicious tampering and aimed to identify the sender. Mary Belle Spencer of Chicago described the pamphlet as satire punching at police and courts.
