About 1,000 children attended the Tivoli theater Christmas party led by manager George N. Payette and sponsored by the Frederick Rotary Club and others. Gifts totaling around 2,200 pieces, mainly food and clothing, were donated to aid city charities and the poor. The event featured carols, films, cartoons, and candy.

Miss Jean Hall Tammany and John Milton Carter married in Calvary Methodist church with guests from Washington Baltimore and Frederick. The bride wore blue chiffon velvet. maid of honor Miss Mary E. Tammany wore black chiffon. Attendants included Charles A. Tammany and Thomas D. Gardner. They plan a southward wedding trip and will live in Libertytown after Christmas. The bride is a nurse at National Homeopathic Hospital in Washington. the groom works with Frederick County Products Inc.
Rev. Augustus F. Beard of Yale, reputedly the nation’s oldest Congregational minister, died at his Norwalk home at 101. He celebrated his birthday May 11, remained active, took an airplane ride at 100, and used an absentee ballot to avoid crowds at the election.

Six masked men robbed the First National and the Okemah National banks in Okemah Oklahoma at 9 a m taking about 19000 dollars. They bound and gagged 13 employees and looted vaults after entering each bank. The robbers escaped leaving entries and exits undetermined.

Members of Jacques de Molay Commandery No 4 Knights Templar plan the annual Christmas observance at the Masonic Temple on Christmas Day at 11 45 AM with a noon toast to Most Eminent Grand Master Andrew D Agnew. The service includes hymns, toasts to Grand Master Alfred E B Jones and other dignitaries, a prayer by Rev Dr G Ellis Williams, and benediction. Died this year were Edgar Henry MacBride David King Charles Earl Kelly Ralph Wheelock Ford and Elias Beeson Ramsburg.

Thomas Bay of Walkersville through attorney Max L. Berman fled an application in U S District Court claiming insolvency and seeking composition or time to pay debts. His 156 acre Walkersville to Lewis Town farm is valued at 6000 dollars with other property at 505 dollars and debts of 318,577. The case was referred to Conciliation Commissioner Edward S. Delaplaine.
The Christmas Christian Endeavor play titled Mimi Lights A Candle will be shown Sunday at 7:30 PM in the Presbyterian church Sunday School room on West Second Street. Nine actors portray Christmas eve tales. proceeds benefit the poor. Directed by Mrs Saniel E Brown Jr, with carol singing preceding.

Maryland Governor-elect Harry W. Nice said he will present a general sales tax bill to the legislature the day after he takes office January 10. He noted the plan aims to raise about 10 million dollars for unemployment relief and a operating deficit, with a 1 percent levy yielding roughly 3 million and a 3 percent levy or higher likely needed. The budget and bill will be ready for February 1 brief.
Mrs J P Feiser of Woodsboro announces the engagement of daughter Frances Le Gore to John Franklin Meehan Jr of Mt Airy Philadelphia. The couple met at a bridge luncheon at the Feiser residence. Frances, a 1928 Frederick High School and 1932 Hood College graduate, has taught at Brunswick and Frederick High Schools. Meehan, Lafayette College 1923 graduate, was a Navy and Cavalry veteran and is a lieutenant in the Twenty ninth Division Aviation M N G. He is a member of the Masonic order and co owner of J F Meehan and Sons Inc, nurserymen and landscape architects. No wedding date set.
