Citizens volunteer time to police at Christmas
For 16 years Jewish residents of Beth Sholom Congregation in Frederick, Maryland, have assisted the city police during Christmas Eve and Day. This year they will also ride with county sheriff's deputies. Organizer Sanford Blum notes the effort began to let officers have holidays off and now includes crowd control, traffic direction, and crime scene support. The National Council of Jewish Women plans to bring coffee and donuts to police on Christmas Day.
