Charge Filed Against John
KARLSRUHE Germany Dec 22 2 The South German radio reported that West Germany's former security chief Dr Otto Jehn has been charged with suspected treason. He returned Dev 12 after 16 months in Communist East Germany. A warrant was served as danger he might fire or cover up activities. No official confirmation. Dr Carl Weichmann chief prosecutor of the Supreme Court did not comment but scheduled a news conference tomorrow on the John case. Karlsruhe hosts the court. John was questioned by an examining Supreme Court judge upon return to see grounds for treason suspicions. John spent two million dollars a year on counter intelligence for Bonn before turning up in the Communist zone July 20 1954. His arrival sparked Bonn's postwar scandal. There were charges he used his post as head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution for a Communist spy renter. West Germany branded him a traitor in absentia. Interior Minister Gerhard Schroeder said he did not believe treachery was intended. John escaped East Berlin Dec 12 with Danish newsman Hendrik Bonde-Hendriksen who said he picked John up in East zone and drove through Communist checkposts into Western Berlin. John hinted he had been drugged and taken to East Berlin, not willingly as West believed.
