Centerville tavern shooting leads to acquittals and hospital case
A July shooting at Norris A Brown’s Centerville tavern left Earlston C Brown and others wounded after a beer spill escalated into violence. Charles Pryor Jr fired a 22 caliber rifle, injuring Brown Jr and prompting charges of disturbing the peace and later assault and battery. A directed acquittal on the disturbance counts followed, with Lyles Pryor Tyler and Pryor receiving suspended sentences or prison terms. In a separate incident, 10 year old Robert E Gray Jr died in a house fire on a farm near Leesburg, with his mother and two sisters hospitalized. Authorities pursued the fire’s cause and treatment.
