Earthquake near Markleeville rocks California Nevada border

Fire destroys large swine lab at UW Arlington

A blaze at a University of Wisconsin swine research lab in Arlington killed about 700 pigs and wiped out a third of the pigs used in a 20 year cholesterol study. The fire also affected arthritis and organ transplant research. Damage could reach $5 million for the building and $350,000 for animals.
