Must Overcome Prejudices Over Hiring Older Workers
Washington December 21 United Press secretary of labor James P Mitchell warns that without overcoming biases against older workers half the nation’s adult population may be jobless by 1975 as the 45 and over group grows to about half. He cites equal status in hiring, continued skill upkeep, and the cost of pension schemes as challenges while noting older workers show equal or better performance and safety records.

Strip Commission of its Planning Powers Proposed
ROCKVILLE Md Dec 21 Legislation to strip the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission of planning powers was proposed to the Montgomery County delegation to the General Assembly by Mrs Stella B Werner. Her plan would vest planning in a county agency under the County Council while the independent commission would be limited to stream valley conservation duties handling federal parkland funds. She urged abolishing the Upper Montgomery County Planning Commission, a point Blair Lee Jr warned could endanger zoning powers from the 1927 Regional District Act. The delegation was also asked to study a cigarette tax to replace the personal property tax on county business and farm interests.
