County Tax Rate Jumped 14 Cents in 1956

Frederick County commissioners announced the 1956 tax rate at 1.54 per 100 of assessed property, up 14 cents from 1955. Delbert S. Null said the increase is the smallest possible given rising budgets. The board cited funding for voting machines, health, schools, and jury pay, plus capital outlay for new office machines and sheriff vehicles, with a push for future revenue options like a statewide sales or cigarette tax.
